Fr. Athanasius O Brien 1919-2010

Fr. Athanasius [Michael O Brien] was born in Wexford on the 19th April 1919. 

 He entered Mount Melleray Abbey as a novice on the 19th of November 1942 and was solemnly professed February 22nd, 1948.  Over the years Father Athanasius worked in the monastery as book-binder, infirmarian and was known to many people as a confessor and spiritual director.

Fr. Athanasius' was not in good health for the past couple of months and he spent the last few weeks in hospital.

Fr. Athanasius died on the morning of the 27th of May 2010 and was buried in the monastery cemetery after Requiem Mass on Saturday 29th May.

May he rest in peace.
