Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church
Over the coming month the five monasteries of Cistercian monks in Ireland will undergo a review of our Safeguarding Practice. The Review will be conducted by The National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland [NBSCCCI].
To that end we invite anyone who may have concerns about Safeguarding Practice in any of the five monasteries of Cistercian monks in Ireland to make contact with NBSCCCI.
If there are survivors of abuse perpetrated by members of the Cistercian Order who have not yet come forward, we invite them to do so. They may contact Mr Geoff Costello, our Designated Liaison Person at 086 – 3885261 or they can contact NBSCCCI directly at 01-5053124.
They should also contact the Gardaí/PSNI/Tusla/HSC in their local area or the Gardaí at National level – 01 6663430 / PSNI – 0845 600 8000.
If a survivor contacts NBSCCCI the relevant Cistercian monastery will be advised in writing of this contact. If a survivor is making a new allegation NBSCCCI will inform the civil authorities and the relevant Cistercian monastery in writing and will ensure that counselling through Towards Healing is offered. The NBSCCCI Review report will reference that survivors did contact NBSCCCI and an overview of their comments will be inserted into the report. No identifying information will be given in the report. A detailed report of the comments will be given in a separate document to the relevant Cistercian monastery.
