    The monks of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance in Ireland are fully committed to the importance of safeguarding children and ensuring that they are welcomed, nurtured, cherished and protected in any contact which they may have with our monasteries and any of our monks, staff or volunteers. Since 2014 a revised Safeguarding Children Policy was adopted in common with other Cistercian monasteries in Ireland. You can view or download that policy here:

    During 2015 the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland (NBSCCCI) undertook a review of the Safeguarding practices in the Irish Cistercian Monasteries. The report on this review was published in September 2015. You can view or download that report here:

    The Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance in Ireland accepts this report and its recommendations and has made the following response:

    The Report on the NBSCCCI Review made seven recommendations concerning Safeguarding practices in the Irish Cistercian Monasteries. The Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance in Ireland accepts these recommendations and has submitted a progress report to the NBSCCCI on their implementation.
